Trellis Positioning

Post  GlassHen on 4/5/2011, 12:23 pm

I was thinking of putting up a trellis along the South and West sides of my SFG like this...

I was planning on putting Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas on the South side (left side of picture). On the West side I was thinking cukes and maybe trying a pumpkin or watermelon.

I guess my question is has anyone had any experience with a trellis on the South side of a garden? I was thinking I would put some different types of lettuce in the front of the box maybe to help with shading them and helping them last longer. What else would be good for the front of the boxes? (I have another 2x12 box that will contain my sun loving plants.)

Since you have a fence behind the trellis I don't see that it'll make much difference in the shading, kwim? The fence will already be shading that area, right?
