Garden Update from NE Texas

Post  Jay Bird on 4/6/2011, 11:33 am

The Garden is about 80% planted I hope the last few cold nights didnt do too much damage, the peppers , cuc's tom's, squash , zucchini, cilantro, basil, rosemary, Dill, parsley all started from seed in the greenhouse our now transplanted ,, gonna plant cantelope and watermelon from seed in their boxes this weekend. I am not going to put the purple hulls in the beds this year(sorry Mel) they take too much space to get a good qauntity. Last year they did great in the box but they used up valuable box realestate. SO gotta see if I remember how to start the tiller,, maybe I could build a 40' x 120' box just for purple hull peas that would be 4800 sq X 9 plants each= 43,200 plants HMMM ,, nope not enough energy!

Jay Bird, Just out of curiosity, how many squares of purple hulls did you do last year and what kind of yield did you see? I'm thinking of doing purple hulls this year. My hubbly loves black eyed peas.

We are taking a year off from purple hulls, eating them that is. I will plant some for friends and family, but we are tired of eating them. I still have 10 bags in the freezer. The small cream peas are gone, but we are sick of purple hulls.

We love purple hulls, but people out here never heard of them and don't even sell them. Mine are coming up. Seed was 2009 and not all appear to be coming up. Would love to plant some creme peas but don't know what seed name to look for.

Zipper Creams are the big one, the tiny one is the Lady Cream, there is one inbetween those, can't remember what it's called. PM me your address and I'll get some cream peas, zipper and medium cream, out to you.
