My intro

Post  ajpriebe on 4/8/2011, 2:45 pm

Hi, my name is Amy and this is my first year doing square foot gardening. I have done raised beds before, just not the square foot way. Last year, I got so frustrated with my traditional bed approach that I gave up mid season and read up on all sorts of gardening methods/techniques. I am most drawn to square foot gardening so here I am.

I have 3 daughters 11, 8, & 5 who love to help in the garden. I am married to a man who grudgingly helps in the garden . He has been wonderful though, and is currently helping me make the beds. Smile If this works (as I expect) he will be thrilled and more eager to assist. We homeschool and are very busy in general.

My intro

Post  sherryeo on 4/8/2011, 4:23 pm

Hi Amy,

Welcome!!! I've only just joined this week, too, and am a first-time sfgardener. It's funny that your first post sounds a lot like mine - my hubs reluctantly helped me get set up with my sfg materials and is a bit of a skeptic about the whole thing, but in a good natured way. And, I too, was frustrated with conventional gardening techniques - love gardening, but just found too many problems with the traditional way. I guess that's why most people try sfgardening. The sfg method makes so much sense to me & I really think it's going to make a difference. I can't wait to find out!

There are so many great people on this forum who are so very generous with their time and their helpful advice. I know you're going to love it as much as I have been this first week.

Amy

How nice to have you here.

You will find SFG ig great for your kids, and we have members that use SFG as part of their home curriculum.

It is true, so many of us became disillusioned with traditional gardening and moved to SFG. I just can't tolerate or handle the weeds or all of the digging required in a traditional garden.

I love SFG and am constantly telling others about the joy I have found gardening this way. My phone conversations with my older children on the East Coast always contain at least a few details about the current situation in my SFG.

Please keep us updated on your progress and Please share pictures.
