Forty years ago today
my DH and I got married. I was barely 20 years old and he was turning 21. We were way too young to get married?? WHY didn't somebody stop us???

Well, let me be the first to congratulate you two. That's a major accomplishment!!
My wife and I are going on 12 and hope to say the same in another 28 years. I just don't think people today stay as committed, in general, to things. So, this is a huge testament to devotion, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

Awww! Sweet.
Here is to 20 more!
I was 18 (and NOT pregnant) and my husband 21, many did try to stop us. Fear of "I told you so" from my mom and teachers as much as "I meant what I said...." (cute) kept us together at times. I love being older with him.
Again, Congratulations and many more.

Congratulations, that's a wonderful accomplishment.
Not so seriously though: what's with that? No self-respecting hippie got married in those days!

I, too, was 18 and not pregnant (never did have kids). We'll celebrate 31 years married in June. We didn't have too many naysayers, because we were together for nearly 2 years before we married.
Boffer, you are too funny!

Are you kidding? We still had princess dreams. We didn't always wear white and put flowers in our hair instead of wearing a veil, but we did party to celebrate our love.... and to get half a dozen crock pots.

Howdy:
When Mary and I got married some 25 + years ago (neither one of us pregnant
We asked for a knife block with knives. We gave several of them away to others when they got married because we received more than one. I remember one we gave as a gift we forgot to take the original "To Ward and Mary" card from the package. OOPS!
God Bless, Ward and Mary.

(I was waiting for OH to check back in before I responded again, but she's probably got better things to do today! So...)
Oh no..no..not like that at all! We were leading the way for an entire generation. It was the era of free love, unshaved legs, beards, and tie-dyes. It was the first time that a 'birth control pill' meant something different than 'an aspirin squeezed tightly between your knees'. It was sit-ins, and love-ins, and share and share alike. Those were the days...

Yep, us too: devotion, sacrifice, love and inertia.

Re: Forty years ago today
Well, I've known my husband since I was 16, got married to him at 30, and been married 20 years. A lot to accomplish for someone only 29 yrs. old!
About getting married too young, you know what Erma Bombeck said: I know I married too young. But when you're 40 and in love, who can tell you anything?

Congrats Old Hippie.
It's good to see another couple that has managed to beat the odds. (Did they tell you it wouldn't last? Fooled them didn't you?)
