Weather Update for the Upper Midwest..

Post  BackyardBirdGardner on 4/10/2011, 11:41 am

Guys, I don't sound warning bells. I don't hype things. But, I will let you know when stuff has potential.

Anytime this time of year that the temperatures are running 20+* above the norm, the atmosphere is charging up for a release. And, give it some wind, and we know what that means throughout the Midwest and Great Plains.........thunderstorms. Sometimes some doozies.

Most of our region will be quiet today. Most of us will be quiet tomorrow. But, someone is gonna catch it right on the chin I think.

As of now, the weather people are talking about the highest likelihood of severe outbreaks to be north of a line running from Des Moines to Chicago. Those guys have a TOR-CON rating of a 7.

TOR-CON is the newest term on The Weather Channel describing your percentage chance of seeing a tornado. A "7" means you have a 70% chance of seeing a tornado happen within 50 miles of you. That's kind of a big deal to me. I don't pay attention to anything under a 5. To me, a 50/50 chance is just that, and tornadoes are pretty rare sights on top of all that mumbo-jumbo.

There is a powerful storm system coming through the Midwest today and tomorrow. Remain vigilant and keep your eyes to the skies...and tv. I would just prefer everyone know there IS a chance so no one is caught off guard.

Keep Chuggin'!
