Another BCer

Post  nancyb on 3/22/2010, 10:25 am

Hi all, I live in southern BC, right on the US/Canada border about an hour east of Osoyoos. I started SFG last year, as found the row garden just too much work. I just turned over the sod in my 4x8 box yesterday. I have another 4x8 box, but it was a dissappointment last year, as DH did not see the reason to follow Mels advice about soil. But I think the great harvest I had with the boxes that I did use the soil mix in has converted him.
I am looking forward to this site, I just found it today.

Hey Nancy, I am a little south of you in Everett, Washington. (LOVE south BC)

My husband and I are just the opposite of you. I spent years loving and tending my giant French intensive garden from a mountain valley just east of where I am now. I almost had a relationship with my beautiful loam. Moving to town, the loam seemed nasty after that garden. I thought I could just work the soil back to life. I'm not as young as I was when I worked that little Eden AND I got a puppy, a mostly terrier puppy. The rooster that I used to call roto-tiller has nothing on a terrier puppy when it comes to digging up a garden! We went to SFG this year, bought the filler stuff (I already had some good compost) and poked in some seeds. Even though we have not eaten from the garden yet, we already love it. An early spring hasn't hurt our attitude at all.

Deborah .....hoping your husband catches the bug! (and welcome)
