With all the crazy weather we've had I think I only have 1 nante left. We've already had 90 degrees, and then lots of rain right before planting time, and again right after. Even my carrots I planted 4 weeks before that have slowed their growing. I may just have to wait until fall to get some good carrots.

I have 2 squares of Nantes that I planted for carrot week. One that I direct sowed and the other that I sprouted in vermiculite. Both were started April 15th...

Direct Sowed



Sprouted in vermiculite first then transplanted around the 25th of April. I can't believe the difference.

I used my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR3 on the macro setting. I also have a Nikon D40 but I don't use it as often since it doesn't fit in my back pocket Smile

Thank you so much, GlassHen! It's a dream of mine to once again have a true macro lens. So much fun photographing teeny tiny things! Alas, available coins going to garden renovation now, not camera. At least we can eat garden things, but not pictures. Very Happy

My Nantes were sown on April 12th and this is the result as of today. Still not large enough to harvest. I only put them in the left side of the square and put another variety in the right side the end of May.

Here in Maine they take a long time to mature. That's a Chinese cabbage above them.

Here's my Nantes as of this morning, June 20, 2011. There are two squares -- and I did thin them, really! There were planted on April 15.
