Jamie Oliver's TV show

Post  FarmerValerie on 4/12/2011, 7:46 pm

Jamie Oliver (aka the Naked Chef) has his second season of Food Revolution on TV, ABC 7PM, tonight. I think you may be able to watch it on Hulu.com or ABC.com later, not sure. This is the guy trying to get healthy lunches (and breakfast) in our schools here in America. I'll be eating a salad picked from my garden while watching! Sad thing is in the first season an entire class of first graders did not know where veggies came from, let alone know a tomato from a potato.

I'm recording it so I can watch it with my 1st-grader. 8:00 is bedtime so she can't watch it "live". I loved last season and really wish we could get him involved with sfgs at schools. L.A. will be interesting!

WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL!!!! AWESOME SHOW!!!

I won't spoil it for you, but if you can watch it later, I'll keep checking, do so. For isntance did you know that 8oz of flavored milk has TWENTY-EIGHT GRAMS of sugar, thats more than soda.

Most of us grow our own food so we know what we are eating, but what are our kids eating while they are being entrusted to the school?

Oooh, I'm glad to hear it is that good. We probably won't watch until the weekend. I learned about the milk thing last season and my kid knows to choose white milk if she is buying lunch at school. Mostly I pack for her - well, for both of us - and she gets a juice pouch. We're working on making good choices. It's not easy when there are so many things available. I'll let you know when we watch it. I think she'll love it. She really likes "Who Do You Think You Are?".

Did you know that in the state of Illinois you cannot bring your lunch to school, someone correct me if I have been informed incorrectly.

Word of caution on this show, prepare to be as sick to your stomach as when you were last year when he showed us how chicken nuggets were made, this time it's a beef product.

One school district in Chicago is trying that out, not the whole state of Illinois. I wouldn't like to be in that district.

Thanks for the heads up on that elliephant, I cannot believe that parents are not more upset, but then too I could not believe they brought junk to school when the vending machines were pulled either on last years show.

I saw something about that on the news last night. Does anyone know why? I'd be very happy if I didn't have to pack my kid's lunch, yet I don't want to be forced to pay for the school's lunch, either. Is the Chicago school's lunch really healthy? I may have to look this up. I'll let you know if I find anything.

I am abstaining from posting multiple informative links as they have nothing to do with SFG and the information, it will make you hurl... I'm just saying. Shocked

My husband was like "'eh what's the big deal" when he saw that segment Rolling Eyes (I wonder if I talked about it too much, or it hit too close a nerve, he never got into the show and found it annoying I think. He eats fairly "good" but food is his drug of choice so I think it made him feel shamed and you can't get far with shaming people/help people who aren't ready to be helped) And to be accurate it isn't all nuggets that are made like that. When we get too general we loose credability.

Watching it now on ABC (it's also on HULU).

Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks for the headsup. I missed it last nite but will set it on my DVR to record future shows. I love anything to do with growing healthy foods.

Divide 28g by 4 to get how many teaspoons of sugar there is and you get 7. 7 teaspoons of sugar in one cup of milk. How much do you put in your coffee/tea?
