Hello, From Louisiana!

Post  NAR56 on 4/26/2011, 8:45 pm

Just wanted to post an update of my spring garden. I just got my first Bush Bean harvest! I am so excited. I also made a separate Tomato SFG to keep my tall vine plants separate from my other SFG plants. My 270 Gallon rain barrel with sump hooked to a watering wand is working nicely. I am ready for the Summer heat this year. I just want to say thanks to all who post on this site b/c I have learned much from reading everyone's posts over the winter. Below are some pictures of my SFG.

Wow, when did you plant your bush beans? Did you have to start them inside?

(LA here, too... my uncle works with a guy who planted snow peas in December, and potatoes in early January, and is harvesting both now.)

Welcome aboard! Everything looks great. I LOVE the dog protector. Mine is not working as well as I had planned.

How easy is it to put up and take down when you need to enter your garden and reach the soil? And, if you could describe the netting it would be great.

Looks like you are off to a great start. It's great to have you here. I hope you are an active member once you get acclimated. happy hi

I cannot remember if I have said but I wanted to make sure I did, so if I have already said it, forgive me.

Love your set up!!! We have family in BR, my husband's uncle and his family are there. He is a BIG LSU fan! Thank you so much for sharing pictures we do love them. I really need to update mine, but just as soon as I figured out how to put them on the tower computer, it crashed, and I'm on hubby's laptop....

I hope the weather has been kind to you, this sure has been a weird April.

Miss M, I don't remember when exactly when I planted, but I think it was late Feb, early March.

BackyardBirdGardner, the Dog protector is just made out of 1/2 "' PVC and slips into PVC pipe in the SFG. It is just on the 2 long sides of the SFG. There is 1 piece of PVC that connects the 2 sides together on the short end of the SFG for structural support. This piece is not glued to the main structure for quick access. The netting is just some plastic netting I purchased at Home Depot and is zipped tied to the PVC. I did cut the netting into 2 pieces and for a "L" shape. You can see that there are 2 orange cord clips on the near and far side in the picture. These just clip the loose netting on the short side to the zipped tied netting on the long side of the SFG. It provides quick entry to 1 side of the garden for harvest or I can remove both sides for planting, etc. In the winter I put plastic covering over the entire thing as a cold frame. I will try to take more pictures tonight and post them for you all.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and I hope others will post pictures of their SFG's.
