New project

Post  Dadoo on Tue 26 Apr 2011 - 21:05

Inspired by the echonet.org urban gardening videos, I am going to attempt to grow Blue Lake Bush beans and Chinese Noodle beans in a minimum of growing medium (MM) in a 5 gallon container. I've stacked empty pairs of pop cans in old socks and placed them in a five gallon pail. I've topped them with 2 inches of Mel's mix and added 8 bean starts begun in peat pods. I believe this array should give the roots enough stability for healthy growth.
We've taken a lot of rain recently so some drain holes on the bottom of the bucket will prevent flooding of the soil.
If this first container is successful, I'll add 3 more containers to the SQF garden beds that are already installed in the back of the house.
