Food Bank In Elizabeth City

Post  walshevak on 4/27/2011, 11:34 am

I had sooo much lettuce (in spite of staggered planting) and gave most of my red sails and mixed gourmet blend haircuts today. Result was 3 plastic grocery bags full. Now, I like my salads, but there was no way I could manage that much lettuce before it went bad. I took a chance and drove down to the food panty here in town and they were delighted to take 2 bags full.

They are happy to take any fresh produce that I have in excess.

The bummer part: they have 6 raised beds in front of the facility and nobody has volunteered to work them this year. If they were tabletops, I would volunteer, but my knees couldn't take it on the ground.

Wonderful that they were able to accept the fresh produce contributions. cheers

Too bad the raised beds are still on the ground. The only reason I am doing a food pantry bed at our community garden is that the beds are table top height, so I can still get to the stuff without killing my knees or back.
