About the staph, I remember reading somewhere that plain old aspirin was very effective against treating some types of staph. I wonder if that's true?

@NHGardener wrote:I had an outbreak of some weird skin thing on the backs of my hands, particularly the knuckle area, it would seem to come every winter, dry, cracked, itched liked crazy, red broken skin/dry patches. But thinking back, I wonder if it had something to do with the hot tub chemicals, because we don't run that anymore, and I haven't noticed it the last 2 winters?

It was on my toes too. Itched like crazy. In the humid summer weather it would go away.

Glad the prednisone is working!

What chemicals do you use for your hot tub? I think you are sensitive to chlorine and bromine. I suggest that you may want to try a biguanide product such as Baqua Spa, LeisureTime Free or Spa Guard Soft Soak. It may work for you and is a real sanitizer.

hot tub filters | spa filters | unicel filters

I even buy Dr. Bronner's pure castile soaps for them. I put about a 1/2 inch in the bottom of a foaming pumper and fill the rest with water, it lasts way longer than the store bought chemical infused soaps Smile

I know about Dr. Bronner's soaps, but what is a "foaming pumper" and where can I buy one? :?:

A "foaming pumper" is a pump for liquid soap that adds air to the soap as it dispenses it. The result, instead of looking like a thick liquid is a foam. If you look at the store, you'll see hand soaps that come in a "foamer" rather than a simple pump. The soap in a foamer is usually of a thinner consistency. A quick search on Amazon for "foaming pump" also tells me that they sell empty dispensers that will add air into whatever product you add to it and make the resulting soap come out as a foam. My guess is that is something like what the previous poster was talking about. Smile
