reuse potting soil

Post  cabinfever on 4/30/2011, 6:23 am

This has probably been answered before, but I can't seem to find any threads on it. What do you all do with your old potting soil? I've heard you can mix it with the new stuff and add some compost, but what are the ratios? I've also seen where people pour boiling water over it to kill any disease that may be lurking. After sitting in my garage in 40 below temperatures, I doubt anything survived! What are your thoughts? I used to just put the old stuff in the bottoms of larger pots, but I'd like to get better use of it. Gardening, like everything else, is getting so expensive!

I throw mine in my compost bin. I hate to throw it away too.
