My First SQF Garden Layouts

Post  Homekeeper on 4/30/2011, 4:58 pm

Please critique and give advice! I hope I'm doing this all right. We won't be planting tomatoes, squash, corn, etc until the end of May/first of June. I also am not sure what to plant in the empty spots of the 2nd garden - possibly more strawberries because I make freezer jam twice a year and we eat strawberries. This is more of a trial and error to see what grows in our area and then I will sell the excess and only plant what we eat once I know what grows good in our rainy, hardly sunny area lol. Razz

Some fast growers to plant before the maters are radiashes if you like them. You could wait a couple of weeks and plant more lettuce to extend your harvest. Another good way to think of what to plant is to look at your shopping list and see what vegies you are buying. Wink

Nice looking plan for your two beds!

As Shannon suggested, a few radishes might do well as a fast crop until your "warmer, sunny" weather arrives.
When the weather warms up, you might consider bush beans in those two empty squares of the second box.

I know I am a bit cooler than you in the summer, but my sugar snap peas did well most of the summer.

Well, I've never eaten radishes that I remember and we have never eaten
them as a family either, so not sure we would like them. We do plan on
doing the pole beans, tomatoes, etc when it gets warmer along with
squash. One thing that I noticed I forgot to plant was garlic! We use a
lot of garlic in cooking and then hummus. Thanks for all the help,
keep it coming! Very Happy
