How big a difference between 12 and 16 inches?
PLease don't say 4
! I have some 8 inch beds that the tomoto plants didn't care for last year. They loved the 16 inch beds. Looking at constructing wood ones and I am debating between 12 or 16 inch depth. Ideally I would like the 16, but cost wise 12 would be better. I am not worried about bending over...just want happy plants.

If the nutrients in the Mel's Mix is balanced, you really only need 6" to grow tomatos. This is my first year at sfg, but some of the pictures from last year and word from the "old timers" sure showed me proof.
