I'm digging up my maters and peppers

Post  walshevak on 5/4/2011, 10:58 pm

I just found out I'll be leaving the country mid June through late Aug. It's a paying job and I can't afford to turn it down. But I've got no neighbors willing to watch the garden. So tomorrow I'll be digging up the tomatos and peppers that I transplanted a few days ago, packing up the hanging baskets, loading the potato bin and hauling them to my son's house. I also have a bed kit and he has enough MM left to fill it. I'll harvest and eat what I can from now till June and then start a fall garden when I get back. Good thing I drive a truck.

Murphey's Law: As soon as you get your garden and flower beds planted, you get called back to work.

Kay

Kay: Whoo-Ray for being called back to work and in a paying job. Boo-Hoo you can't take your garden with you. Whoo-Ray you can take your knowledge of Square Foot Gardening with you, and you get to share that knowledge with new people.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

I'm not moving, just doing a temp job for 3 months. I'll be back to start a fall garden in my beds.

Oh, Vienna, Austria

Here is the bed with all my relocated peppers and tomatos. Still have a patio mater to find a container for and some more peppers. Gave away 1 heirloom tomato, 2 patio tomatos and some peppers.

10 tomatos on the outside edges, 2 eggplant and 4 peppers in the rest of the squares. Not the ideal layout but it was what we could make available. I'm thinking instead of building trellis for this box maybe I should just put up 10 tall stakes. This was to have been my year for learning and teaching my son how to prune tomatos. We always just tied them up to cages and stakes and let them go. Don't know how this is all going to work out, but something will grow.

A view of the relocated garden

Oh, brought my bin of potatos down and look at the difference between his bin and mine on the left. Planted the same day, but mine caught a late frost.

And here is the begonia I potted up for my daughter in law for Easter.
