Please send some good luck vibes!!!
Tomorrow I am getting the new SFG's at the elementary school up and running!!!
My kids go to a Montessori school with the Charter through the Audubon center. I have about 5 parent volunteers coming in to help set up the beds and help the kids with the Mels Mix. We are using the recycled beds from SAM's Club (the school already had two purchased last year that were a flop due to weed seed infested dirt) in addition to a wood one that they built last year. We are going to relocate the beds where the kids can work on them during recess time right next to the playground. We will be adding two of the double beds stacked 16 inches tall as well as a stacked single bed for a total of 5 new beds (one for each classroom). We probably won't get to the planting tomorrow. The preschool and kindergarten class will be planting a bed of potatoe, and the 1, 2, and 3rd graders will be growing various plants.
I have driven all over creation picking up compost tonight. One more trip in the morning to get peat moss. And the best part of it???? The PTO is paying for the gardens!!!
I love this school!!!!
Keep your fingers crossed it all runs smoothly!! I will post some pictures once we get the beds up.

Don't forget to come back and post ongoing pictures of this new adventure for the kids. It sounds super.
What happens to the gardens in the summer when they are on vacation?

I believe in Montessori schools they don't have long vacations. At least my brother's kids in Texas didn't. Always felt like they missed out because of family activities on our side are in Iowa...they didn't get to come for much..not even funerals...not cool in my opinion.

Have Fun milaneyjane
Yes it will be a good bit of work, but with 5 helpers, ya'll can do it.
Are you letting the kids help mix the MM?

Good luck with your school gardens! I wonder how many children will eat from the food grown rather than eat the school food :p

We run the same as the public school. I have three other families that are familiar with gardening that have volunteered to help take care of the gardens rotating each week. We are planting mostly things that don't need to be harvested until the fall with the exception being tomato. Those will be frozen at school or used by the families taking care of the gardens.
