What's wrong with this tomato??

Post  Blackrose on 5/11/2011, 10:28 am

I got this tomato delivered from my CSA. It's been sitting on my windowsill for about a week. When I picked it up yesterday, I realized that it has something inside (a bunch of somethings actually) that look like they are ready to pop out of the skin. It's freaking me out affraid , so I put it in a zipper bag to wait and see what happens. Anyone know what this is? They are all around the entire circumference of the tomato and hard to the touch.

I've got the heebie jeebies....

I purchased some tomatoes (and did not eat them right away)
The seeds inside the tomatoe were actually germinating. When you cut the tomato, don't be suprised to find little baby plant seedling looking things.

Looks similar to mine.

Really? That would be hilarious! It still creeps me out. I may get my DH to cut into it for me. Big scaredy-cat here!! affraid cat

If there are little seedlings in there, I wonder if they will grow into a plant. Hmmm...

I wonder if after a while my tomato will look like this:

Or this:

I may try to grow a couple of sprouts to see what happens. I'll keep these plants away from the rest of my others though, just in case.

Look at that! You have your own seed starting station in a tomato Laughing

That is crazy cool! You should take regular pictures of your tomatoes progress. I'd love to see how it comes along.

I will take pics! Now that I have a good idea what it is, I will remove it from the ziploc bag. I'm still a little freaked out by it though. Laughing

LOL!!! Thanks for the warning Gwynn! I'm in a bungalow though. The kitchen is not that far away from my bedroom. Shocked

Okay, I have a dumb question...What does CSA stand for?

Canadian Space Agency?
Controlled Substance Act?
Canadian Scientific Abstracts?
Community Supported Agriculture?

Which one of the above might have given you this freaky tomato? affraid

I've had tomatoes sprout on the inside before, especially if I leave them out on the counter too long. They also grow black-gray furry stuff. Ewwww.

Oops... sorry! That's the correct answer. We have veggies and eggs delivered from a local farm every 2 weeks and meat monthly all winter. It turned out pretty good. I'm not sure if we'll do it again though.

I wonder if I should send them a pic of my freaky tomato. Laughing

When I searched for the abbreviation on Google, there was a loooong list. I only picked the ones that might be related to a freaky tomato. I'm glad it wasn't one of the other three! What a Face

I don't know... this tomato kind of looks like it could have come from space.
