Fungus gnats or shore flies, please help

I have fungus gnats or shore flies in my box. Thought the little Evil or Very Mad s were just in one pot. I see on the web that one shoud let the top of "soil" dry out between waterings. Does any one know how long it should be dry? If I don't water daily my peppers wilt in the after noon.
Have you had a problem with these guys?

Good morning,

I see no one responded. Did you find a solution to this problem ? I have either fungus gnats or black aphids... apparently they'll both dig into the soil and fly onto the plant.

I found some info online on killing fungus gnat larvae (not the adults) with a BTi soil drench. (Not BTK) But don't know if that's SFG "allowed".

Thanks they turned out to be shore flies just a bother when they buzz me but don't harm plants.
