Something is going wrong with my compost. I have it in a 50 gallon garbage can with holes drilled in it. It does get turned as best as we can a few times a week. I know it's wetter right now than it ought to be, I added more dried grass and left the lid off. I think it needs more browns than what it's been getting. It never did get hot and it's been a month, but temps in northern MN have still been somewhat chilly. My question is, will this straighten out, or is it a loss since I obviously have the bad, black hatted little dudes. It reeks and I'm about ready to throw the whole stinky heap.

Try some (lots) more browns, dried grass, chopped leaves, shredded office paper. what ever you can get. good idea taking the top off, if it's not raining this will help rid the extra moisture. It should right itself eventually. Hang tough!
