Help squash plant problem

I have had many blossoms but only one squash on this plant. The one I had got to about 3 inches then died from blossom end rot about 2-3 wks ago. Now i just noticed the plant appears to be dying from the ground up. It's all black. I've attached a picture. I did mel's mix with my own compost i've been making for about 6 months before i used it. I have no idea what is happening to this plant. None of the surrounding plants are effected by anything. I've had a zuccinni plant next to it that is 3 times it's size producing nice fruits. I live in northwest florida. We have been extremely dry and i've been watering with a mist for about 2 -3 mins a day.

I have to say your plant looks great. The stem has a good dark green color, the older leaves will dry up and fall away, this is normal. Young squash plants will put out multiple male blossoms before any female blossoms appear so this could have been an issue. Blossom end rot is so aggravating, I know. There are a few reasons for BER and the remedy may require adding several things to the garden soil. Click here ~~~> BER INFO. Good luck.

Last year I thought my squashes were suffering from BER. It turned out it was lack of pollination. Once I started hand pollinating the problem stopped.

The stem turning a darker green is fine.

Thank you for the responses. I am completely surprised that the dark green color is normal. It looked black to me and I guess I freaked out. lol. I will look into the ber stuff. I never knew that you could hand pollenate your plants. I will try that too. thanks ya'll.
