Just puttering today

Post  CindiLou on 5/26/2011, 10:09 pm

I wanted to make my hoops for my gardens into something better than just taped together. Today Hubby helped me at the hardware store. We used machine screws, flat washers, and lock nuts. After he drilled (yea so much for MY project lol) the holes I set them up then hubby tightened them. I can now fold them like a baby gate and hang them on the outside wall of the shed. This is going to be so much better than retaping them every time. I forgot to get pictures but will include them next time I can. Hurt my darn back just as it was getting all better. Just by reaching down for some lettuce for lunch. I think my garden has it in for me this year. TT might come sooner than expected if my back keeps messing up!
Right now darvocet and a heating pad are keeping me going My chiropractor is sooo going to be aggravated tomorrow! I had just gotten so I was not sore! And yes, I was trying to go from the waist lol...next time I am kneeling!

Snap, you have my sympathy, I overdid it the other day and my back is telling me to take it easy. Fortunately it has been raining so that saved me a job. All I've managed to do in the last two days is remove trays from under plants that are growing on (had far too much rain at one go) repot a shrub, stick bamboo canes in for peas, sow some seed and potter about indoors.

Sorry your back has acted up. There has been a lot of puttering weather here this spring. Yesterday I worked outside in my rain suit on my rain water irrigation pipe system and was mud toe to head. CindiLou while you are down for a while would it be possible to get your microwave rhubarb crisp recipe. I do quite a lot with rhubarb but a microwave crisp does sound appealing and time and heat saving too.

This is the recipe I use. I don't know where I got it but it is gooood!

Easy Rhubarb Crisp
2 cups chopped rhubarb
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1. In a microwave-safe baking dish combine rhubarb and sugar.
2. Microwave on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring once.
3. In a separate bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, quick cooking oats and cinnamon; mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over the rhubarb mixture.
4. Microwave on MEDIUM for 6 minutes.

Thanks that looks great CindiLou. My wife can no longer cook/bake so it will help me out immensely. I presume a few walnuts would be ok to add. Hope your back is getting better.

Ahhhh, I hear you on the back thing!! With my job at the paint store and lifting heavy five gal. pails of paint (zinc primer weighs over 80 lbs.) I have to be very careful of my back. I have hurt it numerous times before starting this job. Once it gets better, get some exercises from your physio or chiro person. Strength training for my back helped me so much but I have also had to learn smart ways of doing things and when enough is enough. Sometimes you can just tell by the feel of your muscles that one more lift or bend is going to do you in and you have to learn to recognize that point.

And I love ThermaCare heat wraps. The little ones for the neck fit perfectly in the small of your back and give you constant, gentle heat for about twelve hours. Better than pain meds in my opinion. (well, if anything could be better than pain meds Smile Between pain meds and the smell of industrial paint thinners, the day sometimes has a nice spin to it )

Take care.

Good to hear you are on the mend. Just don't "forget" and do something to set it back again.
