June in the Lower South

Post  FarmerValerie on 6/2/2011, 1:31 pm

I am working on updates and to-do's for this time of year, and I'll get those out very soon, but as I am sure most of you know, some areas have skipped the "Whew, it's getting warm" and gone straight to STICKY. I am weary of saying it's hot here, because it doesn't get really hot until August and most of us are looking forward to 95 degrees by then so we can stand to be outside again. So please, please, remember to drink plenty of water, if you don't you may have to count on someone else to water your garden. So as soon as my body temp gets back to normal (which is a degree lower than normal) I'll start compiling a few tidbits for you.

Okay until I get the June update done (I'm sharing the computer right now with kids during the day and hubby at night) here are a few links for newbies to look through for more "localized" gardening, and as always if you have something for your state, county (or parish), city, or local Higher Learning Place (college or university) PLEASE share!!!

Stay cool in the sunny !!!! I know I long to hop in my grandson's little pool he swims in when he's here.

Still trying to pull this all together, it may be short, my cake decorating classes for kids college at our local college are starting next week, so I'm also working on that.

I did want to pass along that today we got our entire summer forcast. HOT, 20% chance of thunderstorms in the late after noon, highs in the 100's. That's it, our entire summer forcast, and this is until mid September. We are fortunate this week though, our high Friday is going to be 92, so I can stay out an extra 30 minutes Friday morning, until 9:00AM at least. You know it's summer in TX when you step out the door at 7AM to leave for work and need another shower by the time you get to your car.

Do you have a bad weather plan? I know it's summer, but it's also hurricane season, we may not get hurricanes in the lower south region, but boy do we feel the pain from the storms as they travel inland. If you don't have a plan, make one, one thing to make sure you have on hand is water. We live in the country and are on well water, no electricity means no water. Something else you may want to pick up is a package or two of baby wipes, makes for a quick bath when the air is out.

Okay, I'll keep a few updates for June coming as time allows, but I gotta admit, the heat is getting to me, and when I come in from outside in the morning all I want to do is go back to sleep, and I am often asleep by 9PM. Please update and tell us what you are doing in June in your neighborhood.
