Pole Beans and Corn are Pale

Post  Cynlady on 6/16/2011, 8:40 pm

Hi. I'm new here so please bear with me. I have raised beds that are filled with organic compost, 10% pumice and organic potting soil that has bat guano, worm castings as the medium which I am growing my veggie garden in. I have planted together corn, beans and potatoes in one of the beds very simular to the 3 Sisters garden. When the beans and corn first came up they were very green looking. Now they are both a pale green. Can anyone tell me what I need to do or add to the soil that will bring back the green they once were? Thank you

I had a similar issue last year and found that some iron helped. I think I used a sprayer and misted the leaves in the AM. Check with your local nursery for brands and usage information.

I get some of that especially in my wicking buckets. To restore a healthy look I make some home brewed compost tea. About monthly using it on my house plants and gardens keeps everything green. There are a lot of sites to get set up and producing compost tea. For one you can make it in quantity cheaply after about $30-50 setup costs. Google shows many sites for making it. Start here and look around more. http://www.finegardening.com/how-to/articles/brewing-compost-tea.aspx
