New opportunity to make an SFG business!
Hey Everyone,
This is Alan. I wanted to let everyone know of a new idea I have. Over the past few years I have talked with many of you. A lot of you guys have expressed a desire to make a business out of Square Foot Gardening. I wanted to see if you guys would like to try an experiment. I have seen many of you come up with great looking products and I'd like to give you guys the chance to make some money with your ideas(if you are interested) I would like to open up a new site for selling merchandise and products that we don't currently sell at the foundation or that are different or cheaper or in some way better than what we offer. Basically, I'd like to open a new store that sells your products!. Some ideas of products that I would like to sell that we currently don't sell are:
*Greenhouses or season extending products
*More innovative or attractive garden trellises
*Cheaper SFG boxes or boxes made out of other materials
*Compost or composters
*I'd love to be able to sell seeds (if you have any good contacts in the biz. I'd like to avoid Monsato or the big boys and give small producers a voice)
*Some amazing gadget that you have made that will save the world but can't seem to find an audience for!
*etc
You get the picture. Although I don't mind selling products that your friend gets for a buck from timbuktu (I want to make gardening cheap enough that everyone will be able to easily afford the start up costs) , I'd like to focus on helping families who can produce products in the their home (in other words, locally) I have the means to set up a professional store and get people to come, so I'd like to use it to help our community to get their businesses off the ground!
Here is the most important requirement. You must be able to mass produce this product and be able to be reliable. If you are interested, please let me know. I need a description of what you would like to sell, why it's original or innovative or whatever, Good quality pictures of it that I can use for listing the product, etc.
Please contact me if you are interested in making some money selling your product here! If you know of someone else (a friend, neighbor, fellow gardener) who might be interested. Have them contact me. My email is alan@squarefootgardening.com
Let me know what your thoughts are! Alan

My 2 cents.
Maybe instead of selling seeds. You can have links for the smaller local growers. That would be nice for them. I would love to sign up but all I can make is quilts and mass producing is about 2 a year.

Thanks for the thought. We can link to local growers too, I just want to focus on making this new site a place where we can help those wanting to share their talents and gain some income (especially those struggling in this economy!)

I think you have a great idea, for lots of folks have something to sell, but don't have the tech savy to get it online.
Not to put a damper on this, but, everyone should check local ordinances. In SC, I cannot buy an orange tree or sell compost off my property. I haven't checked on the seeds.
The government, I guess? are doing this for our own good.
Items you craft ex: greenhouses, garden frames are not regulated yet.

The store is currenlty closed as we more our production to South Carolina. I am not sure why you are getting a 'sorry server can't be found' but you should be landing on a page that talks about our move. Remember that if you guys need to get drip kits, they are still available on our amazon storefront here:
