I'm a Believer!

Post  mabgrav on 6/22/2011, 9:30 pm

I read the book. Watched the videos. Built the boxes. Used the grids. Shoveled the mix. Watched my neighbors stare at me in confusion. Now I have so much food I don't know what to do and it keeps coming. I have corn that is chest high in the last week of June! I have three kids and we can't eat enough salad at this point. My daughter now goes to the garden for a radish snack!

This was so easy! Thanks Mel and all of people with thier helpful thoughts.

mabgrab and what a super testimonial to SFG.

I guess you did everything right including a good mix of compost and had perfect weather as well.

Well done. How many squares do you have? Next year you will be able to not grow as much of the stuff you had too much of and plant something new.

Re: I'm a Believer!

Thanks everyone. I started with 6 boxes offering me 96 square feet of garden space. I began some plants indoors. I also had my 7 and 4 year olds plant all the seeds.

I kept my traditional garden this year but included some of the SFG knowledge to it. I wanted to see what results I could get. I am happy with how it is, however it doesn't compare to the SFG garden. The weeding time time doesn't even compare. Also, I spend much more time in the tradional garden with watering. I purchased all my tomato plants on the same day and planted them the same day. I put 8 plants in the SFG garden and over twenty in the traditional garden. All the plants in the SFG garden are at least 3 times the size of the others. I am recogizing that the soil in the traditional garden is just not up to the task.

I am already thinking of the possibilities for next year.
