Why my plants are turning yellow?

Post  Tonmoy02 on 6/23/2011, 2:48 am

Hi, I'm from Florida. very recently I added 100 sft SFG with MelMix (Composts+Vermiculite+Peatmoss). I planted verious vegetables, but my plants are turming yellow. So, I added wormcasting and wormtubes, couple of weeks ago, but I don't see any difference, plants are still yelow. Anyone has any suggestion?

Why my plants are turning yellow?

Post  sherryeo on 6/23/2011, 10:39 pm

Tonmoy02, Welcome to the forum! So glad you decided to join us. I'm going to let some of the other, more experienced sfgardeners answer your question. But there is an excellent post that explains some things that can go wrong when mixing the Mel's Mix. If you haven't already, you might want to read it while waiting for someone else to try to reply to your post. I really think anyone who plans to sfg should read it!

And again, welcome, please post any questions, concerns, problems, successes you have with your sfg. Also check out the regional forum for your area. It's a good place to post queries if you have questions specific to gardening in your area. Post pics of your garden when you can. Folks here really love to help us newbies!

Welcome aboard.

It seems a lot of people accidentally miss the MM calculations. I assume nutrient-deficiency until otherwise proven because it's just so easy to have too much peat in there. Not to mention another poster made great point the other day....maybe it takes awhile for the MM to "mix" and spread the nutrients evenly?

But, either way, do what you can to get through the season, imo. Worm castings, compost tea, even a little liquid boost. It's still a great growing medium AND in the fall, you can always remix and/or top up with some compost. I think we all miss something on our first shot. It's just too common an issue. You definitely are not alone.

Hope to see more of you around here!
