Carrot-day carrots

Post  Icemaiden on 6/24/2011, 10:10 am

This is a picture of my Nantes carrots square, taken on 20th June. The seeds were sown on April 14th when it was very cold and windy.
The next square on the right is the same carrot seed but sown on May 6th when the weather was more "normal".
Carrot-day made me sow three weeks earlier than I would have done otherwise and the plants are certainly further along at the moment Very Happy

Maybe you'll plant earlier next year, too? Did you have to cover anything for frost protection?

yes, if the carrots stay 3 weeks ahead then I will certainly drag myself out in whatever the weather - it is not as though you need to dig the garden first, is it? Very Happy
I had agricultural fleece over to begin with. I sowed one square in a cold frame too, thinking that would do better. I probably didn't water it well enough, at least those carrots are doing very poorly and probably worse than the ones I sowed in May.
We have had terribly cold weather until this last week. I'm hoping that things will start to grow away now that it is "mid-summer".
