Newbie from GA

Post  AprilakaCCIL on 6/30/2011, 12:29 pm

Hi

I'm a total newbie to the gardening world. Purchased the book "All New Square Foot Gardening" by Mel.
Looking forward to my new adventure with growing my own vegetables.

I've already started my garden before coming across this awesome book.
So far I have two small raised beds and a few containers with vegetables growing in them.
Yesterday I went to Lowes and purchased more wood to create my Square Foot Beds, and of course more amendments to build a great soil.

At first everything was overwhelming, but I believe after getting the above book, I feel more at peace that Yes I can do this.

As always I'm very excited...Looking forward to meeting you all.

~April

AprilakaCCIL, you are going to enjoy the experience, and the results.

Any questions, just ask. There is lots to read everywhere on this forum.

I started to read a compost thread and followed the links to several other compost threads, took me some hours when I should have been weeding the "rest of the yard". The SFGs themselves take no time at all.

April there is alot to learn at first we all have our ups and downs but the SFG and Mel's Mix do make it so much easier than the old row gardening. The vegies you grow are just so much better tasting than what one can buy even from a farmers market. Good luck and we are here for you.

Welcome April,

I have family near Rome, GA. Really nice to have you join us.

This is a great group of people, and if you have questions (most of us do) then please feel free to ask.

There is a lot of information avaiulable here that really helps you to get where you want to be in SFGing. Here is a link on preparing your Mel's Mix and the importance of good compost. HOW STRONG IS YOUR BACKBONE?

Please keep us updated on your progress and share pictures too!

Again, Welcome!

I was born and raised in Georgia. Born in Tifton, and moved to Dublin when I was around 8. I am now a Georgia transplant living in southeast Michigan. You'll get alot of great info, here. I'm happy to hear you'll be starting your gardening career with SFG, since it's by far the easiest way to garden! bounce
