July Garden Report So Cal

Post  Chopper on June 30th 2011, 7:11 pm

I think it is weird that the hottest days of the year come as the days start to get shorter. Go figure. This summer seems hotter than last, but last summer was pretty mild. There is plenty of time right now to even just begin to plant summer vegetables. And the best time to do it is after 5pm as things start to cool down or early morning if that is more your style. So full time workers and morning people alike are accommodated.

What to plant this month - and this does not mean to limit you, just a list of the most popular of the veggies and the best time for planting. I have pushed the envelope on times more than once and was rarely disappointed.

Beans, Bush
Beans, Pole
Beets
Carrots
Corn
Cucumber
Lima Beans
Melons
Peppers
Squash, summer
Squash, Winter
Tomato plants

Have fun and keep us informed about your garden progress. Is anyone having an aphid problem yet?

OH! BackYardGardener's post reminded me - pictures of harvests! I LOVE those. What are we getting out of our gardens in the Southland? A lot I hope!
