Thoughts after a storm...

Post  jbh29 on 7/3/2011, 4:19 pm

My thoughts this weekend are for those who are recovering from tornados! We experienced a severe thunder storm the other night. It was the worst wind I've seen since I was a kid (when a tornado did touch down). On our own property we only had the top of one tree break down over my garden fence. One bucket of potatoes tipped over and the fence was crushed, but that was all. Others in our area had trees fall on garages and homes. Several folks I know had all the trees around their homes knocked over... their yards and woods look like matchsticks. you can't even see the ground under the fallen trees they are so thick, but amazingly many homes in this wooded area are undammaged! Many are still without power (we have it and are housing frozen goods for those who are without). But of course all the talk is of the experience of each person the night of this storm. Each person has a story to share.

Anyway, it all makes me feel for those who suffered complete losses of homes or even loved ones. I can hardly immagine...

We were in Spooner, on vacation, when the storm hit on Friday. It was astonishing. Thankfully, we had access to the basement in the house we rent up there and all 12 of us hung out in there waiting for the storms to blow over. The property where we stayed lost at least 6 trees. Our week was up Saturday morning, so we headed out early because we were without power. (No flush toilets for 12 people makes for not very fun times.)

At one point, we heard a siren go by, only to hear later that an 11 year old girl was killed while camping in the area.

Have they confirmed if it was a tornado that touched down or just straight line winds?

Just 4 hours south of there, there was hardly any rain as evidenced by my extremely dry garden.

So far, I've only heard straight line winds. So sad about the girl... glad to hear you and your family / friends are fine.

We saw online yesterday that there was a confirmed tornado near Solon.
