too late for potatoes?

Post  garden girl on 7/11/2011, 4:02 pm

My sister-in-law just gave me a little basket that someone gave her. It has asparagus, potato tubers, strawberries, and... something else I've forgotten. The potato has already sent out a long shoot with tiny growths all along it - the shoot is maybe a foot and a half long.

Can I still plant this and look for something from it? Any suggestions on how to go about it? Never had a potato before, but always wanted to try!

I'm in zone 5b - south central Washington, usually warm through Sept.

Thanks for any suggestions!

If it was me, I would plant it then wait and see. It would hurt nothing to try. Wink

I would plant it in a 5 gallon bucket! Make sure you drill a hole or 2 in it first.
