Praising Mel's Mix!

Post  fustian on 7/13/2011, 10:03 am

So, I visited my mother's garden yesterday. My mother has been gardening for decades, and just switched over to SFG, but decided to use her own garden soil instead of Mel's Mix.

I started gardening this year, and - as I was starting from scratch - went with Mel's Mix in all my boxes (although I had some compost problems and thus added blood meal to my mix).

What a difference that Mel's Mix makes! My garden is much more productive than hers is so far and the plants are bigger and "further along" (if that makes any sense). I've already harvested almost 7 lbs of broccoli, innumerable baskets of salad greens, around a dozen zucchini and another dozen cucumbers, some lovely large carrots, and yesterday I shucked peas and ended up with 1lb of peas from my 4 squares of pea plants. My mum hasn't harvested much of anything yet (granted she didn't plant broccoli or lettuce).

I've had my problems with pests this year - cucumber beetles and cabbage worms - but I've been incredibly lucky overall. Obviously, the difference between my garden and my mother's garden isn't that I'm more experienced, so I'm giving all the credit to Mel's Mix. Totally worth the investment!

Perhaps your mother will now switch to MM seeing as you have out-performed her? Very Happy

MM would make a great Christmas gift.
