Florida newbie

Post  jersh on 7/18/2011, 3:28 am

Greetings all, I'm new to the forum here and also new to SFG. My wife and I live in Wesley Chapel, FL which is just north of Tampa. We are planning our first SFG for this fall. I look forward to learning from this site and also contributing in the future as I get some experience. I'm also an avid homebrewer and I look forward to using the spent grains from my brewing as compost in our SFG!

Welcome Jersh! This is my first year with SFG as well. I make homemade wine out of the local fruits and just 2 days ago got to put my first spent fruit must in the compost bin!

Welcome. I live in Dunedin (just west of Tampa) and am still getting used to the growing seasons in Florida. Get ready, August is the beginning of the fall planting season.

Thanks Mike! I'm planning a trip to the Pasco Extension office later this week to see what kind of info they have to offer... I'm certainly getting ready, in fact I plan on building my boxes this weekend and hopefully obtaining my MM ingredients as well.

Here is a link to the Pinellas County extension office planting guide. Maybe it will give you a starting point.
