N & C Midwesterners, who wants a symposium?

Post  BackyardBirdGardner on 7/21/2011, 12:46 pm

Please vote so we can show the Foundation that we would like to become certified teachers and do so by symposium if one were only hosted closer to our homes.

Toss your city in here, too, so those looking can get an idea of where one may work best. I am in St. Louis, MO, and would love to see one close by.

Obviously, I would attend. Would you?

BBG you just identified the main problem. We all would like to see one nearby. Don’t suppose webinars are a viable option but a thought. I would define nearby as not needing a motel.

I'm near Peoria, IL. I would like to see one somewhere near by. I could go to Chicago, St. Louis, or Indy.

I am interested in becoming certified

Post  mijejo on 7/21/2011, 5:18 pm

I am just north of Cincinnati. I would be willing to commute a couple of hours. That would give me the range of most of Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.

I'm in the Detroit Metro area. Would be willing to travel to anywhere in Northern Ohio, Northern Indiana, and anywhere in the lower peninsula of Michigan. These all are a max of 6 to 7 hours drive. (I don't fly Embarassed)

This good, guys. I think the banter will help place a good bullseye in the forum's largest region. I also think things may be proportionate in terms of gardeners. Seems logical to get one nearby someday.

For the record, I'm not worried about hotels/motels. I just don't want to drive 12 hours or fly anywhere. That would get me to any city in the region. (I wouldn't be opposed to anything in the upper or mid south, either, provided it's centrally located.

Hopefully, this helps Alan or someone that can get the message to the appropriate people. That's the goal of the thread....to show the demand/potential of a central/midwestern symposium.

Hi Everyone!

This talk about a symposium in your area is GREAT, however someone (or a few someones) needs to step up and volunteer to host the event.

The Foundation doesn't set up the symposia, they work with the local host and come to teach the classes.

Please read Boffer's post to see what's involved.

Have fun y'all! I hope to see a symposium near you soon. Very Happy

Kim

Wow! Looks like interest is out there...

Post  ChicagoLaura on 7/22/2011, 11:39 am

For my part, I am in the Milwaukee/Chicago area, and am interested in certification, too.

I just read the new post about the group certification series...if there are 6 of us close enough to each other, we could study together over a longer period of time, it seems.

It would be great to learn together with some of you!

Laura

(Thanks, Boffer and BBG for setting up this thread, too!)

I too would LOVE a class within an 8 hr drive of Cincy but It's with a deep , heavy heart that I type this- with my unemployment check, I would not be able to swing the cost of a symposium/travel costs at this time! Sad That correspondence class is more in my budget right now!
