My new and first SFG

I just finished building and filling my first SFG... The location for this one is a pure experiment, it's on the east side of my house so it only gets sun until mid-day. I'm planning to plant some tomatoes, cukes, sugar snap peas, and possibly some pole beans in this one. I will be building a trellis soon. The growing area of this box is only 17" wide, so my plan is to essentially divide the part closest to the house into traditional 12 in squares for the veggies, and then the remaining 5" will be used to plant marigolds.

In the next week or two I'm planning to build a traditional 4'x4' SFG that I'm going to elevate and put on large rubber castors so I can roll it around the yard to find the best spot... That will also allow me to easily move it into the garage this winter when/if we get any freezing temps.

Hopefully this is the first and only time you will see this box 'naked'.

Thanks GG! I left a few inches on the far end (end with the angle) so I can have room to build the supports for the trellis. This photo shows that better....

Good thinking! I probably would have thought of that AFTER I had my box built, then had to adjust the trellises to fit inside the box! I just finished and set up my last 2 trellises yesterday afternoon.

Hi jersh,

I love the way you adapted your sfg to fit the available space! I hope you're enjoying the forum. It's so great to have another member of the Coastal & Tropical South region (my region, also). I enjoy everyone's posts on here, but have to admit I do have a special interest when I see someone's from my own region. Be sure and post another pic once your sfg has started to "green up" with great new veggies!

Thanks Sherry! I'm just glad I paid attention during Trigonometry back in the day, I wouldn't have been able to make the correct angle cuts if I hadn't What a Face

Ohhhhh! That must be why I haven't ever been able to come up with something that creative - a math whiz I'm most definitely not!
