Texas Tomato Contest

Post  timwardell on 3/28/2010, 8:49 pm

Found this while shopping at Calloway's Nursery today:
Bring your entries to any Calloway’s Nursery (DFW) on June 26 or Cornelius Nursery (Houston) Nursery on June 12, between 9 and noon. Fill out a registration form for each entry. First Prize ($50) and Second Prize ($25) will be awarded at each store for two categories: Best Quality Tomato and Largest Tomato. Judging begins at noon. Start your vegetable garden today!
You can find more information here:

How cool would it be if the winning tomato came from a Square Foot Garden?! Very Happy

I've never had success with large tomatoes. The Texas heat tends to make them crack unless the moisture levels are just right. I'm doing an experiment wherein I have some growing in my SFG and some in 2 EarthBoxes that I bought. Maybe this year will the year. I love cherry tomatoes but they just don't do justice to a sandwich.
