Another Virginian checking in

Post  Jiro on 3/28/2010, 10:40 pm

I used to lurk on the old forum, digesting what I could from a gardener based out of the middle peninsula.

Me? I'm in Alexandria. During the past several years, we have had maintained a small raised bed, primarily herbs and peppers. I wanted to expand into veggie gardening and appreciated Mel Bartholomew's engineer's approach to intensive gardening .

In this initial foray into SFG methods, I restricted myself to a single 4x4 experimental bed focused on salad greens and veggies that my kids enjoy. I am interested to see what works and what doesn't. This year's experiments include snap peas, french green beans, cos and leaf lettuce, chard, tomatoes, bell and hot peppers, carrots, radishes, and ground cherries.

A special focus for me is varmint control. I live in a neighborhood cursed by stray cats.
