Winter Rye and Beer Brewing?

Post  yosoypanadero on 8/15/2011, 11:46 pm

I am going to plant a few rows of winter rye this fall and was wondering some more facts on this plant. Is rye a wheat? Can i gather the grains of winter rye and use them in beer brewing? I know nothing of growing in the winter and would love to be able to use this to an even more advantage than a green manure. Thanks in advance for all the great info!

Should be able to...

Post  Reverend Curlee on 8/16/2011, 12:22 am

Hi yosoypanader. I am a home brewer as well. You should be able to brew with it. Here's a link that talks about it:

http://www.brewingtechniques.com/library/backissues/issue1.3/hayden.html

Funny thing is, I was just getting ready to post in one of the other topics section of the forum to see if there were other home brewers here. Happy Gardening and Brewing.
