Musings

Post  SQFTBIX on 10/26/2011, 4:16 pm

I was cleaning out my beds and had two relatively good Pepper plants. So, I dug them up and repotted them and took them inside. I saw a show where they said you can do this as long as the plants are vibrant and disease free. While they seem to have been shocked a little, they are still alive. I have lights downstairs so I am just going to stick them down there and experiment. Gotta keep myself busy afterall.

I also have lettuce I was growing in hydroponics that are doing great indoors. I have to feed them occasionally but they look good. Can't wait for some salads.

I just got 10 ea 2X6X8's and 2 ea 12' 4X4's to build my new garden beds. And they were - FREE. They are old lumber that my wife's grandmother had laying around and was going to pay to get rid of them. So, we both saved on that.Laughing

So, while the weather begins to change, I am finding things to keep me active.

I bought some wash tubs at the dollar store and plan to do some indoor lettuce as well. I am with you, salads in winter are a luxury for us notherners!

Due to injury/illness, I have been unable to maintain my SFG Table tops for quite a while, Embarassed but I am definately planning to grow lettuce on my semi enclosed porch this winter. I did it last year and had both lettuce and swiss chard throughout the winter.

SQFTBIX, please keep us posted on the success (or not) of your indoor pepper experiment. Due to our cool weather, peppers are slow here and one plant has not yet produced peppers at all, but the plant is still healthy looking. This is a peruvian pepper and it is used to much warmer temps than we have.

If I can get help, I would like to get my light/seedling station set up completed and give this pepper a chance.

Well, the lettuce is doing great. I lost one of the Pepper plants but I figured it would die as it was the less healthy one. So, I am down to one which looks as if it is rebounding. We shall see!
