This is my first post and I am looking for information on drip irrigation for the SFG. The book is very vague about the subject. Any users of drip?

Welcome!
I use soaker hoses in my 2 rows of 3 4x8 boxes. I bought a 50 foot hose, 1 female mender, 1 male mender, an end cap and a splitter to attach to the garden hose for each row.
I cut the 50 foot hose in half, attached the menders to the appropriate ends to make two complete hoses, and attached them to the splitter, after removing the reducer washer from the soaker hose original male end. Then I placed them on the one foot lines from the sides on my 4'wide beds, and watered 2-3 times a week for an hour. Kept my tomatoes from splitting, and everything else happy for the summer. If anything looked a little dry in the corners, I hit it with a hose for a little while to get the water flowing to them.
If that's not clear enough, let me know.

Howdy and Welcome:

The Square Foot Gardening Foundation sells the best drip irrigation system made. The Foundation researched many, many systems until they came up with the one that works best with the Square Foot Gardening system. Go to http://www.squarefootgardening.com and it will take you directly to the SFG Store where the drip systems are shown.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

Hi LarrySC - I am new to the site too but currently use drip irrigation on my straw bale gardens - super easy to install and once I added the timer...I just set it and forget it:) The whole thing took me about 30 minutes to plan and install - I just hooked it up to one of my spickets. I am headed to our local extension office this weekend for a class on drip irrigation - if I learn anything new I'll be sure to post. Let me know if you any specific questions and I'll see if I can help out.

These are all Good responses and very helpful. I have found some videos on YouTube also. I plan to use ¼” soaker hoses instead of the PVC pipe. I think the PVC method has sprayers at the intersections to apply the water. I am trying to keep the water off the leaves and in the ground. I also plan to use the ¼” shut off valves so I can isolate at least one row of 1’ squares. I can then water only the squares I have planted. This is my first topic and I thank all of you for the warm welcome. I look forward to more to come. Thanks again. Smile
