Philadelphia: Free to near-free compost

Post  NK on 3/30/2010, 11:26 pm

Well, free for the most part--one can only take so much per week. The Fairmount Park Recycling Center provides this service--more info on location and terms (which are minimal) here: http://www.fairmountpark.org/RecyclingCenter.asp

Facebook link for Facebook participants: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=87730191957 That post is about a year old, but the same information is on the Center's updated website.

I don't know what sort of compost they have, but I expect it is a result of the drop offs they receive. I'll post more details after I make a trip there this weekend.

Cheers!

The Fairmount Park Recycling center has leaf compost the is made from the leaves collected from around the city. The also have wood chip mulch and on occasion you will find horse manure. You can also get wood there since the park collects fallen trees at the center. You have to cut the logs to the size you want yourself however.
