I love this thread! Smile Ribarr, do you have fish in your system? I'm really interested in possibly growing tilapia in an aquaponic system, but I'm still in the dreaming stage. I'm definitely going to check out your blog!

Windsor.Parker, I'm curious about deep water culture hydroponic system. Can you tell me more or suggest a link?

I find the greenhouse at Hobbit House really interesting, although we don't have the capital to invest in such a thing. We have the land, though, 16 acres of it, and someday we might have the funds *fingers crossed*

Wow - those are some great pictures! I can't wait to see your photos from this year! From the pictures, that's an INCREDIBLE amount of yard for some parts of Chicago. I'm not from there but my husband is, and I've been up there a few times. The yards are normally big enough to turn around in. Smile I'll have to have him orient me to where you are.

But that's the one of the beauties of this method. It's adaptable to just about any situation! You did a great job linking to your gallery - you can also post a picture directly in a thread if you ever want to post that way. Boffer has fantastic directions for most forum actions in the "How to do stuff" area. Smile

So, tell me, why I am afraid of coldframes? They seem like they would require constant monitoring - is that true? Or can you get an automatic vent opener, and not worry about them? (For instance, when the restaurant is closed on Mondays, and once in awhile we don't come in!)

I know what you mean, I roasted a batch of seedling lettuce last year in my cold frame. I believe you can get automatic apparatuses to vent your cold frame, I think Eliot Coleman mentioned them in one of his books, but I don't know what they cost. My guess is that they're worth whatever the price is. Smile

There are some auto vent on the market....when the temps rise , the vent opens according to the heat and then closes when it starts cooling down in the evening. This is good for folks who work and cannot monitor their coldframes. But this is pricey.

I did get one for my being-built greenhouse, on e-bay for $20!!! But I got restaurant chairs on ebay 3 years ago and thought it would be easy to find more that were suitable and cheap - Mad - maybe I'll be luckier with finding more auto-openers.

There was another thread here with a video link about using a vent from a home improvement store.
