Free cardboard barrels

Post  Lindacol on Fri 16 Dec 2011 - 11:36

I saw these cardboard barrels on Craigslist for free. I'm wondering if they could be used in the garden. Wonder if they would hold up for a season to grow potatoes in? Or maybe to make high rises for potatoes by cutting the bottoms out? Any ideas?

The price is certianly right.

I bet if you lined them with plastic you could get several seasons. Those would make great planters for a lot og things. Tomatoes, cukes, and squashes for example, if you wanted to spread some around the yard.

Those look like the commercial ice cream containers. When I was in Elementary school a thousand years ago, the class made large fingerpaintings and glued to the outside. The inside and outside was varnished I think. Don't think polyurathane was available in 1950. Anyway, these "trash cans" were gifts to our mothers on Mother's Day. Last time I saw mine in use was around 1980 and I know it was used, not just stored with my "artwork"
