Welcome Kim!
If you ever need help you've come to the right place. When you have the chance again browse around the site and see what's going on. You can even post pics of your garden progress from square 1. We like pics! It's great to see others enjoying the fruits of their labor.
Have fun!

Hi all. I'm not too new to SFG, been trying it at my house now for 2 years, however I made the bad mistake of not putting my mix together correctly and now have to fix it (used Miracle Gro Garden mix, as the main ingredient).

I am in Zone 6b (South Central PA). I enjoy growing most types of vegetables (green beans, tomatoes, carrots, etc).

I already introduced myself a couple of months ago on the main forum page, but only just noticed this area and felt I should stop in and say "Hi".

Hi mrs. miller,

Sounds like you are off to a good start with the garden and family, not necessarily in that order. Great place to read and to ask some questions.

Just wanted to say hey from a northern neighbor...

All the Best

Hope to see more of you here.  I live in Canada but we all visit everywhere on this forum.

For myself, I am sure you can give me more advice than I can give you, but if you have been through this site, you know are many knowledgeable people here ready to share, both ways.

Have you considered taking the SFG Certified Instructor course? Part of that is access to resources such as Power Point presentations.

Definitely not trying to hassle you, but want to make you are aware, when someone teaches "Square Foot Gardening" they really MUST be teaching it 100% Mel's way or it's just "raised bed gardening" and is considered misuse of the trademarked SFG name.

If you're teaching everything in accordance with Mel's book, that's great, but getting certified really makes you an expert in the method and gives you credibility.

We would definitely appreciate it when you teach that you direct people to the Foundation's Facebook page: SQUARE FOOT GARDENING FOUNDATION, the SQUARE FOOT GARDENING STORE and of course this Forum.

Thanks

Post  PatCee on 3/5/2016, 9:08 pm

Hi, Kim,
I'm brand new to the forum. My husband and I put in 9 -4x4' beds about 10 years ago. I've read both books, the cookbook and purchased the children's book for a grandaughter that shows interest in gardening. Everything I know about gardening is from books, so I've signed up for the certification class in April. I am so looking forward to having access to real people that garden in my region. I LOVE SFG!! I am 62 and I would no longer be gardening if I had to weed those awful rows I started with. My garden is my happy place.
Smiling,
PatCee

Hi and Welcome, PatCee! I am in Ohio, and this is a fun time for us northerners who have been living vicarious gardening lives through our 3 and 4 season friends! You have a ton of squares! Wow! And good for you taking the certification course.

This forum is full of real people gardening using the SFG methods from Mel's books, for sure. Post some pictures, I am sure we would love to see your beds! Visit frequently so we can learn more about your journey, we all learn so much from each other's successes and struggles as well...

glad you\'re here
