Greetings from Michigan!

Post  NorthWoodsFever on 1/7/2012, 5:44 pm

Hi everyone! I've been lurking around the site for awhile and figured I'd better register so I can gain more knowledge!

I'm located in SE Michigan. We've been doing a garden for the past 4 years now and it gets bigger each year! Last year we decided to add 4 fun, yet goofy chickens to the mix. We choose the Heritage breeds - Delaware and Buff Chantecler. Pru, Rosie, Cindy and Clare have been so much fun!

This year I'll be trying my hand at saving seeds and pressure canning, as my parents got me a new pressure canner for Christmas.

I enjoy reading, drawing, gardening, needlefelting, yarn spinning and I'm just getting started with knitting. I also make jewelry and crafts to sell in my spare time. Right now, I'm studing and planning this years garden, though my "better half" thinks it's WAY to soon! Shocked

Below I have a photograph of the "Girls" as they are affectionately called as they were busted in the garden last fall. We have it fenced off so the dogs and the "Girls" can't get in, but they found a weak spot! LOL

glad you\'re here Greetings and Welcome! glad you\'re here

Too early? HAH! I am also in the GWN, in NE South Dakota, and tell your hubby that I have already ordered and RECEIVED my seeds for this coming spring, along with my seed-starting supplies. I have also already mapped out my garden in my Excel garden planner spreadsheet and am impatiently waiting for my hubby to help me set up my seed-starting station.

Love the pics of the 'Girls'! I know they can make a mess in the garden, but hopefully you will be able to get a few more pics of them in the yard to post this spring.

Here are a couple more photos of the Girls. The firest photo is of their than new Hen Hotel, it was taken before the roof was covered and the sky-light put in. It will be painted to match the shed this coming Spring. We just didn't have time last summer to get it painted.

The fruits of their labor:

Pru, Clare and Cindy:

One of the reasons I LOVE Clare - there are so many shades of Buff...YUM
