hello from the PNW

Post  sarahcraig2010 on 1/11/2012, 12:16 pm

Hello!!

I ran across this book and read it in about 2 hours....and then I couldnt sleep because I was so excited to start my garden!

For the past 4 years I have been a manager of a farmers market, with no need to grow my own (plus I lived in an apartment with a manager that was pretty "doushy" with the rules).

Then last year I got pregnant with twins, and lets just say I was due in May and wasnt really up for gardening.... So, this year I am SOOO ready!!

So, I am planning and ready to get started. I also have chickens, which are pretty fun!

Hello Sarah!

I'm guessing that you are not in the Apartment any more? (chickens are the clue )

I'm a long drive away but have almost the same weather. Get your camera ready cause we want to ooou and awwww at your progress and your twins (and some of us get all silly about chickens too!)

The next four weeks are usually our four coldest in the PNW...a great time to stay active building boxes and mixing mix (while the twins nap).

Big farmers market hug to you and your babies (all your little bi-peds!)

sarahcraig from Tacoma

We are really glad you are here. How exciting that you have already read the book and are now in a place where you can put that great information to work for you.

BTW, I am expecting twin grandsons this coming May. cheers I also have an 18 mo old grandson in Bremerton and two older granddaughters in GA. (Proud Nani Razz )

Before you start creating your Mel's Mix, read this thread HEART AND SOUL OF SFG . It will help you make the best Mel's Mix ever.

My climate is a bit different from yours as I am on the Southern Coast of Oregon. We live on a lake with some surrounding hills that protect our tiny valley. Because we don't have a lot of really low temps, I am considered zone 9.

You will need to check your last frost date and determine if you should be starting any indoor seeds soon. Here are some helpful links. FROST DATES AND OTHER HELPFUL LINKS

Look around the forum and use the SEARCH box in the upper left of the screen for specific subjects. Please feel free to ask questions. Be sure to keep us updated on your progress and again, Welcome.

Edited to add: oh those boys are gorgeous!

Hello sarahcraig! Welcome to the forum. The book is an easy read, isn't it? I'm glad you are excited to start and found us here on the forum. Congratulations on the new babies/home/chickens. Smile

Your daughter Maddy has had to deal with a lot of changes! I hope she will enjoy being your little gardener buddy. She has very pretty dark eyes BTW. Fun thing about SFG is I can give my daughters their very own squares. My oldest wants corn in hers, my youngest wants flowers. Laughing

Thanks for these links! - and Hi Sarah practically neighbors. Close to
JBLM. Maybe all us Washingtonians could get together sometime.

When my daughter was about your sons age, she decided that tasting What a Face the longest earthworm she could pull outa the mud, to be quite the accomplishment, lol. - Kids are so much fun, along with the Gardening. Enjoy it all flower
