Baby chicks ordered today

Baby chicks ordered today
This may belong in Senseless Banter, but I placed my order with Meyer Hatchery for 20 Delaware pullets, 1 rooster, 5 Ameracauna pullets & 1 rooster. They should ship the week of March 20th. I don't know who is more excited, the grandkids or me (probably me).

Very exciting. I keep wanting chicks but I just lay down until the feeling goes away. Too big a commitment plus I am not living in a place that would be conducive. Bottom line: I am jealous! Let us know what happens and of course...pictures.

Here's my not-so-famous Chicken Ears picture from the last chicks I ordered. This is a Turken (naked neck). They lay very large eggs, but are just so ugly.

I have Golden Red crosses, which are hybrids of the Rhode Island Red. I get bigger than jumbo eggs, and I feed them an Omega-3 feed. The average egg is to have about 200mg of Omega-3, but I think I'm getting about 300 mg based on the size of these eggs.
Love my girls!

As one who appreciates quirky I think your little Turken is adorable sporting its funny little crew cut hair doo. What Mother Nature took away in beauty (shallow window dressing anyway) she gave back in very large eggs. Long live Chicken Ears!

That little guy looks like a cross of Sting, Rutger Hauer and Malcolm McDowell.

Re: Baby chicks ordered today
I thought nobody loved me any more. I didn't get notification of any replies on my post. The Turken turned into a large, lovely hen that laid jumbo eggs. Sadly she is no longer with us. My Boxer won't even look twice at the chickens when we are outside, but if we are no where around and the chickens are out when he is, he has a tasty lunch.
Now he is banned to the back yard with his best buddy, the pot bellied pig that I had to bottle feed for a while last year. They are so funny together. They even sleep together in the dog house.
They were definitely cuter as chicks. Zar, the Boxer & Kujo the 3 legged wolf are in the background.

Re: Baby chicks ordered today
Dixie, I am glad I'm not the only one with a boxer with a taste for chicken
Only mine has no issues at all playing with them in her mouth right in front of you!
We have to keep close tabs on Roxie, and she is let out to run before and after all the birds and kitties are put away.
Looks like our boxers have the same markings
Her is my girl Roxanne. She is typically called Roxie, till she is in trouble. Then its Roxanne!

And I love your Turkens by the way. Some time this spring, maybe we should organize a "hatching" egg swap! Seems to be lot's of chicken folk round here
