Is this a Brussel Sprout or Broccoli Rabe?

Post  TXGirl on 1/20/2012, 3:07 pm

In October, I bought two plants labeled brussel sprouts but now that they are growing, it looks like they could be something else. From the center stalk it looks like broccoli is coming out and it appears the same small broccoli is shooting outside the sides above each of the leaves. Could this be broccoli rabe instead?
Thanks in advance!

What does the stalk look like? any little buds at the juncture of the leaves?

They sure could have been mislabeled. Surprise! I always thought brussel sprout leaves looked more like cabbage. Ah well, still a brassica.

I only grew Brussels sprouts once and mine looked like this, the two tall plants in front:

Did you figure out what it was? It looks like it has bolted.
