rules for garden planning?

i noticed a lot posters are having planning problems so i will post in order importance basic gardening planning rules.
rule 1:plants should be planted north to south in following way.
shade loving plants, tall plants(this includes trellised, plants ,
medium height,short plants, and ground hugging plants.
Height info for different veg types can be found on page 192 of mels book.

rule 2 will be posted tomorrow.

Thanks for the info! I am still reading the book, hopping around to the sections I need and have missed a few things. Too eager a start and no grid in place. (bad error on my part).
